AI governance guidelines and principles for Proptechs and their clients

Below are some basic principles and questions that Proptech Australia believes that all proptechs providing AI services should be able to answer transparently for clients. 


There are no right or wrong or perfect answers to any of these questions. Rather, the answers help users better understand the technology and can make an assessment about their comfort level and any perceived risks.  


  • What type/s of AI is being used?

    • Automation

    • Machine Learning

    • Generative AI

    • Large language models 

    • Agentic AI


  • How willing is the Proptech provider to share with you information about their AI? 


  • Does the Proptech provider inform you of what type of AI is being used and where it is in their systems?


  • Does the Proptech provider explain how AI is governed in their systems? 


  • What transparency is there on how AI models are trained?


  • How does the proptech intend to scale their AI usage? Do they have a roadmap or plan and are they willing to share it? 


  • Can the proptech explain how the use of the AI changes the job roles of the humans - both for clients and the proptech itself. 


  • What steps has the Proptech provider  implemented to reduce AI hallucinations, context rot and workslop?


  • If you find an issue with the AI in their system as a client, what steps does the Proptech provider have a process in place to address and resolve it?


  • Is the language model large or small?


  • Who owns the data going into the model being used by the Proptech provider? 


  • What data ownership - if any - do you retain as a client? 

    • What are the definitions of client owned data?

    • Where are the data ownership boundaries?


  • Where is data stored and managed? 


  • What are the security protocols around the data and AI and what happens if they are breached?  


  • Will client specific data be used to train the AI for the broader competitive market? 


  • What governance authority (if any) exists for the Proptech provider? (Ie APRA)


  • The use of AI takes considerable energy. Does the proptech have sustainability programs in place to offset their energy usage? If so, what are they?
