A new project to map the dynamic growth of companies and products in our national Proptech Sector has been launched by industry peak body Proptech Australia.

The 2026 Proptech Map will be unveiled by the Association President, Kylie Davis, at the Proptech Forum, to be held on November 14 at the Real Estate Institute of Victoria in Melbourne.

All Proptechs – members and non-members of the Association – are invited to participate in the project, which was last undertaken two years ago.

The 2023 Australian Proptech Map identified 478 different proptech products, startups and established companies across eight major categories, revealing the key areas where solutions were established and emerging.

The data found the proptech ecosystem had grown 2.5 times since the industry was previously mapped by BusinessNow in 2019.

Ms Davis said: “The Proptech sector has continued to grow at a rapid rate with many more innovators bringing their ideas and products to market.

“Equally, we have seen consolidation in which major companies have taken on medium-sized and smaller operators with unique product offerings, an attractive client base, or both.”

The main categories for the Proptech Map are largely consistent with those of 2023. They are:

  • Administration and Workflow Efficiency

  • Affordability and Social Solutions

  • AI

  • Asset and Facilities Management

  • Building and Construction

  • Data Services and Solutions

  • Environment and Energy Efficiency Solutions

  • Investor & Consumer

  • Off the Plan

  • Planning and Design

  • Property Management and Strata

  • Sales and Marketing

  • Valuation and Financial Solutions

  • Virtual Reality

Companies will also be able to nominate secondary categories to describe their portfolio of products and services.

Ms Davis said Proptech Australia hoped to publish the Proptech Map every year because of its commercial value to Proptechs seeking to establish the sector’s credibility with clients and prospects.

“The Association itself has enjoyed stability and growth since the 2023 Proptech Map. With more robust systems and structures, we’re able to be more ambitious with our services.

“The Proptech Map has been hugely popular across the entire industry, including those who would buy the technology and services of our members.

“By mapping the depth and breadth of the sector, we are able to provide unprecedented guidance on the strength of the Proptech sector in Australia. And that’s a huge plus when talking to major clients, prospects and government.”

The 2023 Proptech Map found the most competitive segments of the proptech industry were in the following segments:

  • Property and Facilities Management (77 companies)

  • Sales & Marketing (76)

  • Efficiency & Optimisation (72)

  • Consumer (65).

Emerging categories found 58 proptechs in the Environment and 47 in the Social and Sustainability sector. Another 47 were solving ownership, affordability and finance problems, while 46 existed across design, build and development proptech.

Some 37 Proptechs identified themselves as specialising in data, AI, and analytics and insights.  The first Proptech Map found just two major players in the data space.

The creation of the 2023 Australian Proptech Map took more than 12 months and was a collaboration between Proptech Australia, ProptechBNE and REACH Australia.

At the time, Ms Davis said: “We collectively pooled our knowledge of who we knew in the sector, and then put it out on LinkedIn where another 35 proptechs put their hands up and said, ‘Hey, don’t forget about us!’

“It’s very probable there’s even more out there and we encourage those proptechs to get in touch so we can include them in future editions.”
