JLL Spark, in partnership with Proptech Australia, recently hosted a collaborative workshop designed to address the unique challenges facing emerging technology startups in the commercial real estate sector.
The event featured former Proptech Australia director Carolyn Trickett, who is Principal

of JLL Spark Global Ventures, and the Secretary of the association, Chris Mason, of SolveWorks Advisory.
The event focused on fostering collaboration and developing practical strategies for startups to better position their solutions for large CRE organisations.
The workshop employed an interactive approach, beginning with the identification of key themes around startup challenges in the CRE market. Participants then broke into smaller working groups to brainstorm targeted solutions and support mechanisms that the Proptech Australia could implement
Key challenges Identified
Participants identified the many barriers facing startups when selling into commercial real estate organisations. They include:
A struggle to identify the right stakeholders and decisionmakers within large and complex companies.
Difficulty navigating complicated procurement processes.
Preparing for legal and cybersecurity requirements that large CRE organisations demand.
To address these challenges, participants suggested three key initiatives.
The association provides educational sessions covering procurement processes, legal requirements and security standards.
Live pitching sessions and networking events to create opportunities for startups to meet potential clients directly.
Developing a categorised directory to match clients with relevant proptech solutions while improving market visibility for startups.
